Your Glutes, those amazing muscles in your back side knows and the gluteal muscles are the group of muscles that surround your buttocks, thighs, hips, and pelvis.
 
It’s the Glutes that assist in raising rotating and extending your legs, they also aid in maintaining your balance when standing.
 
While some gym users may think glute training is not that important, they do more than just improve your rear view. Below I will outline the biggest reasons glute training is essential to keep you moving smoothly and pain free
 
Having strong glutes can greatly reduce back discomfort, they are essential to lower back health since they assist with pelvic, hip and trunk motions. They also help more evenly distribute load throughout your lower back and lower extremities and assist in good posture.
 
Secondly, a strong pair of glutes can help protect your knee joint. Instability at the hip can cause your femur to turn too far inwards (excessive medial rotation), causing your kneecap to slip out of place as your leg bends and straightens. Strong glutes will help to hold your thigh bone in its optimal alignment preventing your knees from collapsing inward, a common cause of knee pain.
 
And lastly for those athletes out there, glutes are essential to acceleration, jumping and even heavy lifting. If your gluteal muscles get weak, you may find yourself less powerful and less efficient.
